If our country ever had major poverty and our government and army were raping, killing and harming our husbands wives and children would we not all flee
i know if i thought my family would be harmed in my country i would go to any country that would have me!

no we dont I have a lovely Portuguese couple living in my block and they both work etc. But surely some of us can have an opinion towards illegal immigrants that is not judging them they are illegal full stop. We have a lot of polish in my town and when I was up pub other month one came up and introduced himself and was shocked to find I spoke back to him and carried on the conversation, it made me very sad when he said I didn�t think you�d speak to me as no-one likes my sort hear. I just said as long as you do nothing to upset me or my friends what would I care.

I`m all for them fleeing their country to escape the horrors of what goes on.....but why not stay in France or Germany?

I think our country lets these people down, If when they come into the country they are put onto course's in english language and social skills, history and maybe english reading and writing, if they did this .. one they wouldnt feel as isolated and a burden and the nieve people in the uk would hopefully recognise the effort they are making to fit in.

The whole point that Chief Const. was making was that the Cambridge police force is spending over 1 million pount in translation costs alone, plus hours of paperwork for the immigrants. She obviously has a point and is entitled to bring it to the governments attention. The people of Cambridge deserve that surely? She was not knocking immigrants and clearly said so. The point she was making was very valid and Cambridge does not get the normal slice of funding that they are entitled to. Does that make it a bit clearer?

hmm Elvis, what about all the hardworking immigrannts who put up with below minimum wage, turn up without fail, and try to do their best at their job, something a lot of brits wouldn't do? Oldgrape, yep agree with your sentiments, but get the impression that most immigrants in our area are for economic rather than persecution reasons, good luck to them anyway, wouldn't you in the same situation? Don't blame them for making the most of the opportunities available, if anyone has objections then take them directly to the government, but otherwise just ask yourself this, if you were made welcome by a foreign government,would you then feel a litle bit agrieved if the people of that country snubbed you?
