How many meters fencing would I need

Anyone good at figures out there? I need to fence 21 acres of land, how many meters of fencing would I need?

I make it 1251.6m but my maths is rubbish so you may want a second opinion before you go out and buy it!!

It impossible to say, because the perimeter for the given area of 21 acres depends on the actual shape of the land. The smallest length of fencing will occur if the land is absolutely square, but if it is a long thin rectangle in shape, the perimeter will be longer, hence need a greater amount of fencing length.
If, but only if, the field was square, it would be 319 yds by 319yds and the perimeter would be 1276 yds, so the above answer is correct.
If, but only if, the field was four times as long as it is wide, it would be 638 yds by 160yds. The area is still 21 acres, but the perimeter is 1596 yds (approx).

Before some bright spark spots it, the smallest perimeter actually occurs if the field is circular (which is unlikely!).

I'm sh1t at maths, so what I would do is plot the area of land on an (explorer?) map (one that shows field boundaries anyway) map and use the scale to work out perimeter of it.

what shape is youre land and what graidients have you got?

yep, gradients will come into play-my way of working it out relys on flat land! I'd do what buildersmate says and get pacing round it!

as a fencing contractor i would not only be happy to quote you on the materials but i would quote on the job aswell?
