Hi, I am so bored at work and don't think I can stand my job much more. I'm an accountant, but I really don't want to do this any more. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I would actually like to do. I work on temporary contracts and have worked for several companies, so changing company wouldn't help. I'd love to find a job which actually means something and I could help people somehow, but I don't know what. I didn't finish college and didn't go to Uni so it seems like I have no choice but to carry on doing this. I have looked into careers advice, but everyone I found seemed to charge nearly 1000 which just seems like such a lot of money. Has anyone else out there been in a similar position? Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? I feel like I might go insane if I have to do this job any longer.

Hi

I am sat at work thinking the same thing - i have looked in my local paper every job night and still cant find anything i would like to do. Every morning i wake up and have that sick feeling in my stomach at the thought of coming into work.

I really hope you find something soon as i know how awful you feel.
You don't say your age but if you're 24 or under you can get free career advice from a Connexions advisor. You can make an appointment with one through your local job centre.
Check out the reference section at your local library for lists of different careers.
People on here who don't know you can't really give you suggestions. There is an old Monty Python sketch where an accountant announces he always wantd to be a lion tamer!
I'd suggest you think of a few things that interest you and then research them. Only you know your interests and your strengths and weaknesses. Have you any hobbies you could turn into a career?
Good luck.
estate agent. we have fun (most days) two days are never the same, but be prepared for some serious abuse from the public. they hate us grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi Jemski - it makes me feel sad (but also slightly better) that there are other people out there who are miserable at work too. Just want to say thanks for re-assuring me I'm not alone and good luck for you in the future.

mrs_overall - annoyingly I've just turned 25 so can't get the help from Connexions, but your idea of getting some info from the library is a good one, I think I'll go the library over the next few days and see what I can find. I also found that learn direct offer free advice, so I may try contacting them although not sure how helpful they will be.

Anyway thanks for your suggestions :-)
Hi, I thought no one could be as bored and unmotivated (Hope that is the proper grammer!) as me!

I haven't had much to do all week, it is more stressful with less work than too much.

I am trying to move house, so I don't want to start the job seeking process until that is over so I have got to stick it out a bit longer. The people here are really nice, except the person I have to work with - control freak with no life!! That sounds really horrible but its true.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Thank God its Friday!!
Search the internet. That's the best advice I can give. Use sites like monster or reed. Use all of the search terms to find areas of work you might want to check out.
