Googling for the answer to this one brings up Humvee and Hummer.

Could I have an opinion on the most likely answer please.

I put Humvee
a military vehicle that combines the features of a jeep with those of a light truck.

Yesterday there was a discussion about this and it was felt that HUMMER, which used to be a military term is now confined to a civilian SUV that was based on the original military vehicle.

What is in the clue is the military vehicle and HUMVEE fits that description and modern usage.

As far as I know the HUMMER is the civilian version of the military HUMVEE. Hope this helps.
