roughly 2500-2600 miles, except right in the south where, say, San Diego to Miami is nearer 2200

i' looking at Rany McNally's road atlas chart of the US, and it says Miami- San Diego 3093, and New York, NY- Seattle 2941. that's more like it, 2200 sounded too low. i have made similar trips by car, and when you go through the big cities, even taking the belts, it is much more than that.
