The recruiters who speak to my classes always say you must give ita full year to be sure it is the right place, and taht too many freshman pack it in and go home to local schools way too soon. I'm sure your parents are worried for you. Or maybe they have painted your room and hung a disco ball in it for entertaining all their empty nester friends. LOL Big hugs and go to some of the stupid activities they have for newbies and find others to scorn all the joiners and you will have some friends!!!!!!
Hiya turkey,
you make sure you dont sit in that room everynight.Get down to the uni bar and meet people. There will be hundreds like you in the same position. You wont remember the first week anyway..(hic)A good way of mixing in is to join one of the clubs.Good luck and make sure you mix some food in with all the booze...! I expect your mums said that already..lol (:O)

can I advise you seriously to get out there and start drinking!! Seriously! Everyone feels the same when they first get there, but it is so important to make new friends and not hide in your room. Do EVERYTHING they have organised for freshers week- no matter how tired you are. You will only have one freshers week, and one chance to make those all-important new mates. Everyone will stick together like clams for the next two weeks, and in 6 months you will look back and laugh at the people who were your friends in freshers week! But it's someone to go around with. You will make good friends in your lectures which will start soon- but for now, go out there- drink if it helps- and say hello to everyone. Sign up for all the clubs! Go on all the 3-legged pub crawls!! You won't regret it I promise!! I wish I was there!xx
turkey, I echo everyone else's advice-hold your head up and get out there! Did you sleep well? There's so much on offer-unis know what an anxious time this is for people who're away from home without any familiar faces, that's why they ply you with alcohol and make you play giant spin-the-bottle etc.!
I hope you have a lovely time getting to know lots of fab people. I moved away from home to go to Uni, but not to where my Uni is, so I never did Fresher's week, and never go out in my place of study. You are v. lucky to experience such a special time :) Enjoy it, please x

Ah I remember the day as it were yesterday, Monday September 13th 1999, my first night at uni all alone in my room :-) the next night was a pyjama pub crawl and I met some nice people ;)
Keep in mind that the friends you make in the first few days might not be the ones you keep for the duration of your time at uni. Its called trial and error.
