Alternative to felting a flat roof

I need to 're-cover' a flat roof approx' 130m2, the roof was constructed in the fifties with steeled concrete, made waterproof with bitumen tar which has susequently seen a large number of repairs with patches of felt etc. My original plan was to board the entrire area with treated ply-wood, lay undfelt and finish off with a cap sheet, the process will be long and expensive,(approx �2,000). Does anyone know of any equally effective, less time consuming, and hopefully less expensive alternative????? Thanks

At that price it might be worth exploring GRP.

hi........ i am unsure of costs but there is a flat roof company around this area (midlands) that come and put a unbreakable roof down that holds a 25 yr gaurenty??

perhaps there is a franchise in your area?

Last year I had a flat roof replaced. On top of new decking a rubberised sheet was bonded on. It is guaranteed for 20 years.

When our flat roof needed replacement we opted for metal corrugated coated in a plastic finish. This is usually used in industrial buildings but is proving suitable for home use also. The cost is more expensive than felt but will outlast the life of the building. Some people worry that the rain on the roof would be a drawback but we did not find it so. We would use this again!
