Careful with those capital letters!

kg=1,000g
Kg=1,024g (not that I've ever seen this used)

Got a reference for that definition Tim?

I was always taught that capitals were used for values above the base unit and lower case below so

Kg but mg so as not to confuse with Mg ( which would be megagram if it were used ).

I've never encountered 1024 in units outside of computing

Jake, you are correct - for every letter apart from 'k'. The abbreviation for kilogram is 'kg', kilometre is 'km', etc.

As you say, the capital 'K' is used in computing for x1024.
