Has anyone seen this film? I have heard amazing things about it, and plan on watching the dvd I've just bought tonight- I just hope it lives up to all the hype and I'm not disappointed!

Yep, it's set in Brazil (I think), so it will be Portuguese (Cidade de Deus in Portuguese). By all accounts, I think your boyfriend lost out big time, as it's also on FilmFour this weekend and is being described as the Portuguese answer to 'Goodfellas'. Sounds like your b/f might have liked it!

It is a great film, but don't get your expectations to high. Remember it's a low budget movie, set in the slums of Brazil and based on real events. Highly recommended!

I lost interest after the first half hour or so. But then I didn't like Goodfellas either!

I have only heard good things about it....ive never seen it but alot of friends have...if you can put up with the subtitles....

I thought it was fantastic- once you get over the fact that they all look the same so you have to pay a lot of attention to who's who! At least I did...it's really quite scary that it's based on a true story. We really do live in a shuttered world over here in blighty.. The cinematography was outstanding, and the acting terrific too. And more dead bodies than all the Terminator films put together!

One has to worry about the intelligence of people who won't watch sub-titled films.
