I know it's a long list mikewith, but you missed off David Bowie, and the Roger Taylor on the song was from Duran Duran not Queen. (No members of Queen appeared on the song). There's just one more thing to point out and that is that the James Taylor mentioned is James "JT" Taylor of Kool and the Gang and not THE James taylor. Sorry to nitpick, but you'll thank me one day when you get this question for �100 on "Who wants to be a millionaire!"

Look here to find out who sang what - in the end there were only 6 soloists (I had thought there were more) Paul Young, Boy George, Simon Le Bon, Sting, George Michael and Bono - all the rest were backing singers. I'm not sure about the order of the soloists though - I've a feeling George Michael also sang the 2 lines "And it's a world of dread and fear/where the only etc" with Sting rather than Sting on his own. I think Bono replaced George Michael rather than joining in - don't remember there being a trio (but I could be wrong.) Anyone got a copy of the video?! http://www.inthe80s.com/xmaslst.shtml

Correction - listening to it I think it was David Bowie, not George Michael, who sang the "world of dread and fear" bit - however I haven't found a single website that credits him with solo vocals, although several disagree about George Michael and Sting.

Aha, wrong on both counts - having seen the 1980s Christmas thing on BBC2, it was Tony Hadley.

I recall from the video that actor Dan Ackroyd was part of the chorus and is briefly seen on video--can anyone confirm or deny?
