Volume vs. Density

can anyone really answer the milk vs. cream question. What weighs more - 1 litre of milk or 1 litre of cream - so many people with different answers :o)

In the olden days ........ when we had "Gold Top" milk in bottles, one could clearly see the cream floating on the top of the milk.

Are you taking the p!ss? A litre is a litre, whether it's milk, cream or pond water. Is it supposed to be a joke? We used to say that in school, which weighs more, a tonne of bricks or a tonne of feathers?

nat, have you read the question? My guess is that cream has more fat than milk and I reckon fat is denser than water. So therefore, a litre of cream weighs more.

But the weight doesn't change, it has nothing to do with the density.

It would be dense, but if they both weigh 1 litre, how can one weigh more than the other?

A litre is a unit of volume not of weight Natalie. For example a litre of Mercury would weight a good deal more than a litre of hydrogen gas.

I'm sorry I didn't know that, I've never been too good at practical stuff. Maybe should have paid more attention in science/ maths at school....... I'll go now :)

Guess it depends what kind of cream it is and what kind of milk, but I remember in the good old days when milk used to be delivered on our doorstep in bottles the cream always sat on top of the milk, which I guess means it is less dense therefore a litre of cream will weigh less

Well done to Natalie for admitting her lack of knowledge. At least she made a genuine attempt ot answer a question. I don't mean to sound condescening but appreciate that she made a genuine attempt to answer question .
