Can someone explain what is meant by secondary research and what skills and processes are needed to undertake it? Thank you.

Primary research is where you go out and conduct studies yourself - surveys, measurements, statistical analysis over time - depending on what the topic is.
Secondary research is where you use other people's primary research to draw your own conclusions, based on consolidation of other's primary research findings. Its much easier to undertake - especially since the web.
