Boy trouble

My school is an EXTREMELY small, private and Quaker school (though I'm not Quaker and VERY few of the students are). There are only 33 kids in my grade, 16 in some classes, 17 in others. There's a kid in my grade, Anthony, that I really don't know well at all. I know him better than a few of the other people in my grade, but that's only because I sat next to him for 6 months in math and science class last year. This is my 4th year at this school, and my last(it's pre k to 8th grade), so everyone still knows each other at least a little bit. Well, here's the point. Last night I had a dream that I was at the mall and Anthony out of no where came up to me and tried to kiss me, but I slapped him and walked away. He followed me for a while, but eventually gave up. Then I started to try and catch up with him, and when I did, I kissed him. I've never been kissed before, but the way it felt in the dream was amazing. It almost felt like we were really kissing, and he was kissing me back. I cant stop thinking about the dream, the kiss, the feeling, or him. What does it mean? Do I secretly like him? What should I do??

They allow us to harmlessly act out what our awake sensibilities prohibit and they often serve as a foretelling of what our true wishes are, which can be buried deeply within. My thoughts are that in your age group, these are natural, healthy adolescent reactions to the opposite sex. No one here can (or should) tell you what to do. Perhaps its best that if you like this individual, then you work towards developing the relationship on multiple levels. I feel what you mentioned about the slapping is an innocent recognition of the inherent teachings of the school (Quaker) and possibly your perception (and possibly an erroneous one) that you are violating some imaginary rule against people of different faiths showing interest in one another. By no means, however, should you find concern in your dreaming. As long as the dream didnt also include a few dwarfs, a rubber truncheon, ice cubes, a tin of treacle and a goat, Id say your dreams are perfectly healthy for your age group! I wish you every success. Fr. Bill
