Ummm, well seeing as there's already one to the comic genius that is Eric Morecambe, I'd have to say one in Manchester (Collyhurst) of Les Dawson, who I still find hysterical
Splat in B&S?? Whatever next? Gromit in Beauty? AOG in Relationships and Dating? NJOK in Animals & Nature?
What is the world coming to?!
To answer your question. Roald Dahl was my first thought but he was from Norway originally. He grew up over here though and stayed here so I'm not sure if that makes him a permanent resident.
I don't think Austen has a statue so I think I'd quite like her to have one too.
(I actually think I deserve one for services to drinking establishments in London. I've been above and beyond the call of duty in this regard).
Mansfield Park?! Well, I suppose it's not like we agree on music or films either. I change my favourite Austen novel all the time. At the moment it's Persuasion.
I think Spike is having one (if it isn't there already) in Finchley. He was a member of the Finchley Society..I think it was planned to have a statue of him sitting on a bench on the common.
However I do agree with you, sp. The Goons need recognition. Maybe Prince Charles needs a nudge in the right direction?
Anybody read about the Phantom Sculptor in today's paper? Somebody's been leaving stone heads outside peoples houses, with crytptic messages attached to them. Nineteen've appeared so far. Obviously the work of a practical joker - and actually, I wouldn't mind one myself! It'd look good on a stone plinth on the lawn!
Nobody's made a statue of me yet, although I've not really done anything very important to warrant one so how about this, make a statue of me and I'll do my utmost to achieve something worthwhile enough to have earned it. How about it?
