Broadband

According to the CD/DVD i installed my internet connection with, it says "Welcome to NTL Broadband." I set it all up etc...
Start, Settings, Network connections, and according to that - the broadband connection is firewalled and disconnected, and if i try and connect - it asks for user and pass - and i tried what i set connection up with and it doesnt work..
the offer i got internet with was phone, tv and broadband...
yet it doesnt seem to be broadband, and fastest download speeds i can achieve is 120 kb/s .....
any help please?

its on an ethernet connection, we set up an account down the phoneline.. which works, and the current connections that are connected are
1394 Connection
and
Local Area Connection - Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC

How long has it been?
It takes a few days for them to calculate your optimum speed, etc.
Also, what were you downloading? Just because your line supports 8mb or whatever, doesn't mean that you can acheive that everywhere.

Run that test (with no other internet-using programs open, and no other computers using your internet connection), and report back what speeds you get (choose the recommended yellow server).

OK, seems like you're on a 2mb connection?

What are you trying to download? Speeds vary greatly with what you're downloading. Your line speed is only the maximum you could ever get.
The computer you're downloading from may be handling several people at the same time. If it can upload at a max speed of 100kbps, and there are 10 of you downloading, then each of you will get 10kbps. Regardless of how fast your line is.
Those speeds would fit in if you are.
