Is it me or Vista.

I had delivered, yesterday, a new 'Laptop' which had been pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium. However, whilst I have re-established my Internet facillities via Virgin.net I appear to have a problem when dis-connecting from on-line. (apart from e/mails.)

Unlike Windows XP, it seems that Vista does not produce a box which asks if you wish to remain on-line or dis-connect. Consequently, I have discovered , by checking my phone line, that (say on-line to AB) when I close down the site, the Internet connection remains open. However, the same does not apply with an e/mail connection.

Accordingly, if I want to close all Internet connection, I can do so by clicking open E/mail and immediately hitting the 'X' box to close the page; whereupon my phone link closes immediately.

Has anyone any suggestions to improve the position which prevails........Ron

P.S. It seems that Vista doesn't even let one file pages from AB....R

Before anyone replies saying I'm an idiot; I have discovered that there is an 'icon' on the top right hand side of the page which says 'Page' and allows a file copy to be made. However I'm still dull about closing down the Internet....R.

ur an idiot ....... damn - too late!!! you already solved it ....
that means you not an idiot ;-)

vista is realy misleading ... it looks enough like XP for you to think things are going to be pretty much the same ....
but they are not.....

my first tip would be .... always view windows full screen
the top bar ...(organise, views .......)
is context sensitive .... but more importantly ... the best options tend to be off screen (you'll just see >>)
max the window to make searching for clues easier.

second .... go to your local library ... or tolerant bookshop and spend 10 mins with vista for dummies ... or similar ....

finally ... get used to the help system ... it's quite good

might save you a few hours looking for the administrator account!!

It's nice to hear from someone who is sympathetic to my problem and has acknowledged that I am not an idiot !!!?

Bring back Windows 98 and/or XP I say.
