Ground supported concrete slabs - the method commonly used to provide floors in modern dwellings - a lump of concrete sat on the ground, flat so your carpet looks nice on it.
Timber joists - the structural rectangular wooden pieces spaced at regular intervals across a span to support a floor. Often used on the first floor of a dwelling.
Cavity walls - the normal method of domestic construction using two layers of brick or block separated by about 50mm of air gap, and held togther by metal brick ties at regular intervals.
