According to my Reader's Digest Book of British Birds, land birds with red or orange on head or breast are:
Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Redpoll, Linnet, Brambling, Whinchat, Stonechat, Bullfinch, Dartford Warbler, Robin, Swallow, Nuthatch and Redstart.
No it was too big for a robin. I was looking out of my apartment window there were three birds digging around for worms and bits. One was a magpie the other was a bluejay. Then there was this other orange type bird it was bigger but not too much bigger. It was wider and more squat. Not as big as a partridge.
