US TV Show

Trying to recollect the name of a US TV show shown in the UK, probably about 15 years ago. The most I can remember is:

Set in the American South.
A girl star - a reporter I think recently moved there
One episode - crocodile in pool to kill someone
Black humour
Police corruption

Ring any bells?

It might be a bit recent, but maybe "Maximum Bob"? From what I can recall, it ticks some of the boxes...

Thanks gettinblurry, thats the one. Never would have remembered the title. Fantastic series cancelled after 7 episodes - up there with Twin Peaks.

You're welcome. I'd forgotten it got cancelled but then again, I should have guessed as much. It seems most American series I watch go that way. Heroes will be next...
