reading many threads there seems to be a core of users who get really annoyed by bad spelling.
now if you take this from cyberworld to the real world does that mean that those same people are just as picky and critical about the way people speak?

i honestly dont think they are or could be.
surely if you got as uppity as some folk do on here about saying yeah instead of yes , you would indeed end up either in a heated arguement at least or with a bit of aggro.

so if not in the real world then why online?

is it because its safer or because they feel superior online but in real life realise we are all the same.
no matter how we speak or spell?

we come into this life with nothing.
and we leave the same way.

it puzzles me.

i do think that under new disability laws .
and dyslxia is rcognised as a disability.
yuo cannot discriminate against someone merely on the grounds of their dyslexia ( thanks for that O . )
sometimes my lack of typing skill interferes with my ability to say exactly what i mean how i mean it .

Heaven forbid I should ever wish to lapse into the vernacular and pontificate in a manner that was not behoving of a gentleman. However, a proponent of these lackadaisical and obfuscative attempts at verbosity might suggest that the individual has achieved a societal status stratospherically above the norm.

But den on de udder hand, I mite wont 2 spend mo time wid the real people of society. Maybee not.

I think the important thing is to find a balance in ones life, where you can find good things about everyone you meet. We already have too much division based on prejudices.

I thin you could discriminate hiring a PA with dyslexia, because their disability might interfere with their ability to do the job. Saying that my friend is dyslexic and she works in an office environment and gets by, although I dont think its her job to mail letters to customer etc There are rightly discrimination laws but they are used with sense, could you adapt the job to make room for their disability. Adapting the job of a secretary for those with extreme cases of dyslexia would probably be nigh on impossible, a bit like someone with no arms applying to be a fire fighter.

Im terrible with my mistyping on here, its cos hwen im thinking as im typing i get carried away and mispell, when im copy typing its fine and have no mistakes, my brain goes quicker than my fingers.

Recently i was sla@@ed off by a new user and called a thicko cos of it, bit sad really and pathetic, didnt bother me though i knew what i meant :-)

i have a friend at uni who is dyslexic.

they get a laptop and special software to use also a scanner that sacns their books and the software to read the scanned text so they can study.
i know theyre classed as s disabled and the wnew disability laws are too much for me to know exactly if you could or couldnt discriminate?

hes turned mis spelling into an art and now folk are so used to it he doesnt even get abuse.

Under the Disability Act it is unlawful to treat a disabled applicant or employee less favourably because of their disability without justification. An employer cant be held accountable for any undisclosed disability but if a person interviewed felt they didn't get a job because they disclosed dyslexia they could take it to a tribunal.

I'm just saying their has to be some jobs when some disabilities cant be considered and adjusted to encompass some people with certain disabilities. A dyslexic could be a multi million selling novelist for example because they have proof readers and editors but its unlikely that some with severe dyslexia could be an amazing proof reader.

The reason people think the world is PC mad, is because people think everyone else is favoured and there are zero limits to antidiscrimination.

and I think dyslexia has been recognised as a disability for a fair while, certainly since late 90s when we had to impliment a disability awareness manual in my company.

Had my son assessed at a young age when we realised something wasn't right. Nowadays he would be termed dyspraxic (which often accompanies dyslexia) which I dont think was invented back then and in our report he was termed 'very left handed to the point of extreme clumsiness'. He found learning difficult, couldn't catch a ball, reading was a nightmare etc. Not only was recognition rare, but help non existent. His teacher in primary was excellent and eventually found that putting him in the store cupboard, with book and listening to the same text on tape, he made some progress.

This was fine until he went to school one morning and found that the store cupboard had been engulfed in flames due to the tape recorder overheating!

He credits me with teaching him to read and write (strong, but we did put in the hours). He struggled to learn to drive, his hand writing is bad (but then so is mine) but he has managed academic success. He now works for the Met in London (on the beat and not writing letters) and will have enduring problems with clumsiness and spacial awareness.

what a brilliant post! i make mistakes a i try and type too fast but some people just arent the type to be perfect at spelling. does this make them nitpickers feel superior that they can point out these mistakes and attempt to embarass people? all thats important is that they have contributed and express their opinion.

Hi Leg - How are you? Good points well argued Leg! I was a bit saddened by all the posts the other day, decided to stay off for a bit. Personally, I thought some were quite unbelievably cruel and absolutely needless! Still, no point going over old ground eh? So your o.k?
