I have read that when NASA landed on the moon, the television transmitions which were shown on TV were low quality. However high quality film was recorded at several locations. These recordings in high quality have now been lost.
Is there any truth in that?

The signals displayed at the time where significantly lower quality because they where adjusted in the transmission to reduce the radio band width and traffic. There was no separate source of pictures, it's just that the full quality signal was not broadcast at the time, not sure if they actually stored the pre reduced signal though. Read about it here:
