smoke-free conservation area: what fuel?

Hi - if someone lives in a smoke-free conservation area and has an open fireplace, what sort of fuel should they be using? wood? anthracite nuts? What??

is there any difference between the various forms of anthracite? I've heard that there are anthracite nuts, pellets etc
