We were going to Jersey on holiday. I was fascinated by the propellors, which I called the 'fans' and I waved my hands and fingers in imitation of them. I listened to the music of their drones as the aircraft took off. I hummed the rising, falling madrigal tune they played. I still remember the tune to this day.
Being just 3 years old and being allowed to push my baby sister in her huge old fashioned pram. I tried to be grown up and push it away from me, letting go of the handle and then catch it again whilst pulling a face at her. Sadly I did this trick whilst going downhill and the keystone cops type scene as she missed the traffic in the road at the bottom of the hill will stay with me forever. Amazingly, she's my best mate now.
I have a clear memory of being told "we're taking you to see your sister" and as I had not idea what the word sister meant, I deduce it must have been when my sister was born - when I was 18 months old. I also clearly remember being told not to touch her forehead under any circumstances - so she must have been a very small baby then - I could not speak well enough to explain that I was going to be careful - so I tried to stroke her to demonstrate that I could touch her forehead without hurting her - but then everybody started screaming and I was pushed away. My sister was born in Feb. 1965 - nowadays they are not so worried about the fountanelle I understand.
My mum put me in a large brown paper parcel/bag thing with my head sticking out and tried to post me in a postbox (as a joke to make my dad laugh - or so she tells me). I distinctly remember thinking it was the end of me if i was posted and i cried like i have never done before (or since!) I must have been about a year old accordinging to me mum who i only shared this vague memory with about 2 years ago.
