It's now 9.99 a month. Advantages are that (a) if you don't want to subscribe, you don't have to (unlike Sky+), (b) you get more recording time on a top-up TV box than you do on Sky+. Disadvantages are that (a) You don't get to chose which programmes are downloaded from the Top Up TV channels each night (b) you cannot access the extra top up channels all of the time (only UK Gold and Eurosport are available all the time, and then only with the subscription) and (c) because it's through a terrestrial arial, the reception can be dodgy if you're in a poor area for freeview.
However, I'd not be without mine now. Doddle to install, and all the goodness of sky+ style live TV pausing etc without the payments.

We have a Freeview set with a top up card slot. I discovered, much to my chagrin, that for about a year, we had been paying 7.99 a month for a channel that we never watched and actually never knew was there. I cancelled the service, gave the top up box to someone who was interested in blazing their brains with old re-runs and replaced it with a bog-standard box. Haven't given it a thought sense. My children and I are more internet radio addicts and have watched telly less and less each year..
