so, even if you buy a train ticket, you're likely to be on a bus.

So, try here first - http://www.megabus.com/uk/timetables/aberdeen_ glasgow_bus.php
fly, plane tickets have never been cheaper
From Aberdeen to Glasgow, Dot??
If you do go by bus, make sure you book well in advance and don't look for frills on Megabus. I'm talking about a bit of civility from drivers, somewhere to put your luggage etc. make sure you click on the right returns as a friend of mine had clicked the wrong date yesterday and was (understandably refused entry to the bus). When she came back after purchasing further tickets for a later bus she was told that they had "just put people off to make room for them as they had a child" Enjoy Glasgow at Christmas though lots to do and the Christmas lights in George Square are lovely.

Why not hire a car, either for full term of your stay or get two one way hires with a gap in between,
more comfort for the kids.

i did look at mega bus but couldn't book this far in advance. bt very cheap! but 3 hrs on a bus with 2 wee ones hope theirs a toilet on.
The engineering works will not start until late Christmas Eve and should be completed, by the time you wish to return home.
Make some train enquiries now, it will be a lot less hassle, than travelling by bus, especially with children.
