i have made a document in word and saved it to floppy and took it down the printers, when they opened it, the text was a gobbledygook??
i have since been playing with the save as and the best i can get is word 97 to 2003 which doesnt open the document to the way i saved it?
i hope i dont sound to confusing?

Go back a little ... windows and office are two seperate things
ignore windows .... answer these
what version of office WERE you using?
what version of office is your print room using NOW
depending on where you came from and where you are now ... Every new version of office gives more bells and whistles .... the problem is ... when the older version doesn't support any new formatting you apply .... and you save backwards ... the process will warn you ... and then strip the new options out of the document
once the formatting is gone ... it's gone.
Whatever version you have .... you need to work in the oldest format you will encounter .... so if the print room uses O97 and you have O2007 - you still need to save your docs in 97/2003 format (you can set as default)
There are a couple of ways round this
save as PDF - a universal format almost any machine can read - unfortunately ithe document isn't easily editable in PDF Format
or load the 2007 reader on every machine
something your IT guys need to sort out

hi guys thanks for the answers.
i am running office 2007 with windows xp.
the new version of office is all singing and dancing and has made a great document that i need to copy, i have saved it onto disc and used the 97 2003 which i opened on the other comp at work and instead of fancy fading lines in green it has brought it back to a basic black grid?
i have since managed to print it onto an A4 and taken it like that to the printers and they have shrunk it to A5 and made a small booklet?
thanks for your help guys.

well there you go
2007 into 97 won't go
if you regularly take stuff to the printers
download
https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?********=F1FC413C-6D89-4F15-991B-63B07BA5F2E5&displaylang=en
that way you can save as a PDF and the printer can use a first generation copy ... not a photocopy
