Name change ???
2 Answers
I currently have my stepfathers surname, which my mother changed it to during my school years, once I was 18, I changed it legally through solictors. However, that was nearly 30yrs ago. Recently I've got back in contact with my 'real' dad and want to change back to my original surname (which is on my birth certificate). All my other documents state my stepfathers surname included my passport, mortgage docs etc etc. However how would I go about changing it back and does anyone know how much it would cost these days? Last time i did it thru a solicitor, is this the easiest/quickest way? Also, would there be any problems changing over my passport, mortgage documents, insurance documents etc etc. Last time I did it, I was young so had no 'legal documents' as such to change over (I had no passport, mortgage, insurances etc then). Thanks for any info or suggestions. ML

However, in practice it is far easier to do this by deed poll through a solicitor, especially when it comes to changing the name on your passport, driving licence and so on.
Expect to pay 40 - 60.
