I did wonder about the Ribble but don't get the connection with Halifax as the river Ribble does not go anywhere near Halifax, it rises in the Yorkshire Dales and runs through Settle, Clitheroe, Preston, and into the Irish Sea. Many thanks for your help.

Well Halifax is on the Calder - which indeed has six letters
