Abortion
What do people think generally?
I personally think it should be a feedom of choice and highly believe that if people are told they cannot have an abortion they will terminate the pregnancy themselves.
Surely it is better to have this done medically and professionally.

Thing is with abortion is women use it as a contriseptive - and think oh well if i get pregnant i'll just abort, i deffo think it should come down to 16 weeks not 24!! The latest you would find out is prob 12 weeks, so why the hell are women waiting till at least 24 weeks? If you dont want the child - do something about as soon as you find out, why drag it out??
Me personally im against abortion - If that operation did go wrong - it could stop you having children altogether - if theres a good reason why you want to abort such as rape - or life illness - i think ok fair enough - but bring the time scan down - 24 weeks is deffo to late ! ! !

I agree with sam about the time limits having just read a description of a termination on the Daily Mail website.I had no idea late terminations had to be performed in that way.I won't describe it here as it is very upsetting but if anyone is interested in reading the article then just got to the Daily Mail site and you should be able to find it.
I think it's only something like 1% of all abortions are carried out at such a late stage, Preggie_Sam. I can see what you're saying about bringing the limit down in weeks, but think about the people who have to make the difficult choice to abort their baby when they find out it will be born with a severe disability; they wouldn't know about that at 16 weeks.
I'm definitely pro-choice, but as others have said I don't agree with the idea of using abortion as a method of contraception.

Sorry, it's 1.6%.
90% of abortions are carried out at 12 weeks or less gestation.

i think 24 weeks is too late unless its for good reason. Obviously if tests say there is something seriously wrong then thats a different scenario and the 24 week thing should stand. As a general rule though i definitely think the limit should be lowered. I find it shocking that a baby of that many weeks development can be aborted to be honest.
My stance on abortion though is that its a womans right to choose.

Being against abortion for yourself is fair enough, but you should never judge other peoples motives for wanting a termination. Allowing it only for medical reasons or in rape cases makes no sense, Im sure desperate women would go as far as saying to their doctor they had been raped rather than carry on with a pregnancy. I dont believe it is ever an easy decision to make. Do we want to go down the road of other countries that force women to have a termination in dangerous and unsterile conditions? There are women losing there fertility and even their lives every day because they are forced into that situation. I suppose the main issue is the upper limit for allowing terminations to take place, but as whiskeysherry has highlighted they really are much less common and are most often due to abnormalities that cannot be picked up until later in pregnancy. And there is a real issue for debate there, what would you do if your child was going to be severly disabled? Many people have profoundly disabled children and feel they have a quality of life, so why claim it is ok to have an abortion if you are told your child will not be perfect? Abortion should have no conditions attached to apart from the time limits.
oooohhh things are going to kick off. I think people generally have a very good reason for wanting an abortion I.e have been raped etc. I dont think the 24 weeks rule is fair and think it should be lowered quite considereably. people should be given an abortion asap rather than waiting weeks for doctors to decide. The only thing I absolutely DO NOT agree with is the fact that some women use it as a form of contraception. There is no excuse this day and age to get pregnant because they are too lazy to get contraception.
