Can anyone actually recomend a limo company to transport 4 people from JFK to Manhattan. I've been before - done the yellow cab thing (don't want to do it again !!) but this time fancy a chauffered car/towncar/limo type transport. If anyone can actually recomend a company that they have used - yes I can use Google - but I want to use one that someone else can vouch for - Many Thanks in advance

I've never actually used one, but my guide book (A brits guide to New York - highly recommended!) recommends Classic Limousine tel 631-567 5100.
I've used them for 25 years:

TelAviv Cars...good prices and dependable...I also use them when I transport people with disabilities:

Nice people too!

Have a great trip!

I forgot to add: I also use Boston Coach company. However, I know they've had to contract out to different companies when they were oversubscribed. But on every occasion they were professional, clean, and on time!

I have also used Tel Aviv Car Service and the fair was reasonable and service good. I would use them again ...

Their number is (1212) 7777-777
Society: Nice to hear someone else uses them. I think they're great....and...they've pulled me out of a pickle or two when I need some instant transit.

btw...cheapskate that I am...I always dial the toll-free number...especially when in another borough..

1 800 222 9888....

I know I know...cheap cheap cheap...but it keeps me from having to rob the poor box!

Be well

Thank you one and all.

I've read your mini guide to NY Village vicar which was kindly linked through BBWChatt - very enlightening.

First time round we stayed at the Paramount - just off Time Square - whilst about a million dollars was spent on the reception area - their bedrooms left something to be desired. We found the location first class though. Staying a little further up towards Central Park and taking friends this time.

Since posting the original question - I've e-mailed two companies but have not received a reply from them - I think I will call next time.

Many Thanks for all your help.

BTW Reverend what is your guide to tipping in New York ?

Many Thanks
Well, I started out to answer this simply then realised I had written an epistle! Rather than breaking it into a gazillion parts on AB, Ive placed it somewhere that I can use for the future.

And if I ever have the time, Ill add my other tips for the journey.

Have a great trip!

current rate about 15% as the vicar says (I can remember when it was 12% and occasionally you're informed that the going rate is 17%, so it's not static). I only eat in steakhouses and suchlike where I've never seen a headwaiter; they just give you a credit card bill with a space marked 'tip' and another marked 'total' at the bottom. Round the figure up to something convenient and fill it in under total; they can work out the exact tip themselves. Feel free to make the tip a lot lower if the service wasn't good enough - it's how they learn.

Sometimes waiters grumble that they don't actually see any of this tip, it just goes to the house, so you might prefer to leave cash on the table; but that's really a problem for the waiters to sort out with their employers, not something customers ought to solve for them
