I have a Acer Aspire 3000 laptop, and have recently bought an extra 512mb RAM to go with the 512mb already installed.
However when i put the new RAM in, the laptop starts to boot, fans come on and sounds like it is going to come on, but doesn't, just switches back off and tries again?
I have tried taking the original RAM out and putting the new one in it's place, but then it does nothing switches on, no noise blank screen??
Is there something i need to be doing? In the bios perhaps?
I have tried what you suggested, but still no luck, on one occasion the XP loading screen come on then crashed, and another time i thought it was going to come on but a blue screen flashed up for a millisecond and then switched off again?
I assume when you say no good .... the new ram (in any combination) won't allow bootup?
please don't say that the old ram isn't functioning solo
(that would be very bad news)
the only thing (most unlikely) is that you touched the (gold?) edge connectors or blew on them ... with sufficient gop to kill the connection ....
you could try cleaning the edge with a clean "hard" cotton cloth (a hankie ot the edge of a short (unworn)
RAM works at such low current that it is possible to tarnish the contact (generally it happens days or weeks later ... and then only intermittently)
if it's just the new ...
it's back to the shop you got either da wronk stuff! or it's busted (it's happened to me on a couple of occasions - with exactly the same symptoms)
