Need advice about my dog.

A few days ago, we noticed that our seven-year old terrier cross was pulling hair from around his back legs. Tonight, I was stroking him and noticed that he has several hard sores on his head and back. He was groomed and clipped a couple of weeks ago, and I thought that if he had had anything then, it would have been noticed by the lady who did the grooming.
Other than this, he seems in good health, playing with his toys as usual and taking his walks. Could he have been infected at the dog parlour? We worm him regularly and give him flea and tick treatment once a month.
Very worrying. Any advice appreciated.

Have you actually checked for fleas though? It sounds like a flea allergy to me. I've found the best place to locate the lovely (?) little critters is at the top of their tail where it joins their back and right in the armpits (for want of a better word)

Yes I agree with BOO, sounds like a flea allergy, even though you treat him once a month, what treatment do you use.

Frontline is the one most vets recommend, and you can buy the spot on treatment online cheaper than at the vets.

The main thing is don`t let the dog suffer it will not get better on it`s own and will become harder to clear up.
Dogs suffer from different kinds of skin problems, you do need vetinary advice.
I know it`s expensive but also necessary.

Thanks for the prompt replies. By coincidence, my wife has just washed all his bedding, today, so that's not a bad thing. We use Bob Martin's Spot On treatment. Vets tomorrow, first thing. :)

Could the sores possibly be where he was cut by the clippers? Or it could be clipper burn, if the groomer has not oiled the clippers to make them run cool. I'd get the vet to check for you.

I do know also that some people have had a problem with the Bob Martin treatments. Maybe he is reacting to this stuff. I'd give him a break from them before using the Frontline ones, just to be sure.

They don't work. Please, please get your doggy some Frontline from the Vet's. I really mean this, the Bob Martin stuff does not work and there's no wonder your dog has become sore.

Ah, just saw your second reply....silly me! However I'd still like people to take heed from this because the stuff they sell at petshops (Bob Martin et al.) isn't strong enough to kill fleas. I'm not even sure why it's on the market.

Still think it best to get your dog checked over at the vets, they take a skin scraping and send it off to the lab.
Been through this scenario many times, bred and shown dogs for a long period of time.
You really want to treat the right condition.

i agree,my rott lost fur and broke out in sores after bob martin,that stuff is shyte anyway,best thing is to get that rubbish off the shelves x

I agree with cheries,Frontline is the only way to go.Iread in the paper today,fleas are rife cos of the damp summer and mild autumn,ticks too.My dog has had a sore nipple after being nicked at the groomers.
