the sale of a gifted house
hi there, what i would like to know is: Two and a half years ago my mother in law gifted her house to my husband to that he could purchase a shop with a flat above, the idea being we would run the business and the flat would be for her to move into as she had been diagnosed with altzeimers and we knew that longtern we would have to care for her, this we wouldnt be able to do if he staying working where he was. the flat needed a lot of work doing to it and it has taken sometime to restore, unfortunately her altzeimers has progressed very very quickly and she is now in a position where she needs to be in a nursing home as we cannot look after her while she is still in her present home because of the fact that we work very long hours seven days a week and also have four young children, what we want to know is if we find a placement for her in a residential home will we have to sell the house to fund her care, as we really wouldnt be able to afford this , if we were to sell the house it would have to go towards paying off the debts caused trying to get this flat ready for her to live in? Can anyone advise what would be the best thing for us to do, we have already got power of attorney as she had already given most of her savings away?

thankyou for that, we all live in west wales, she lives in llanelli while we are, an hours drive away there and back, in carmarthenshire, and that is what we find most difficult in caring for her. my husband visits her three time a day to give her her tablets which is three hours out of the day before we even start, we want to care for her in the flat above the shop and rent the gifted house out so that she has an income, this was the intention when she gifted the house to him, but now she is adamant she wants to be in a home.As she needs 24 hour care we wondered if it would be possible to find her a temporary care placement until the heating goes into the flat and it is ready for her to move into but we want to know if we would be forced to sell the house to pay for this, we do not want her to be left without an income and the renting out of the house should provide us with the funds for paying for permant care facilities later should we find it necessary
