i was told that you can check your endorsments on your driving license online, is this right and does anyone know where you can do it

No you can't. We (an insurance co) are due to have a trial where we will be able to do this, but the public can't

Wow - my bad then - DVLA told us you couldn't do it. Looking at the link it seems that you have to log in as an individual, so that must be what they meant.

I'm normally pretty spot on though ; )

not if you haven't sent your license off. it also tells you of any outstanding/ up coming convictions
But surely you must know?
Individuals may check the information held on their driving licence record online only if they applied for their photocard licence using the Government Gateway online service.
