I saw her on Graham Norton singing that awful sailboat song. It's taken me les than 1 minute to compose this new verse for her song.

Surely if you don't like what you hear her sing on TV then you aren't even going to attempt to buy her albums?

if Katie does some good stuff then her PR should be doing more to 'get it out there'.

I couldn't agree more. I liked her the first time I heard her and I happen to think she's very talented - and believe me I've seen some rubbish in my time - and I went out and bought her album. That's when I heard her other stuff. Her people seem to want to sell her ballads more, though, so that's what she's becoming known for. Clearly it's what many people do like, because she certainly seems to be selling plenty of copies of her albums.

Of course, if anyone here thinks they they could do as well or better, I challenge them to prove it. Come back here in a couple of years when you've made biggest-selling UK artist for two years running and have outsold Madonna, and I'll concede the argument.

Record sales dont mean its good, these days anyone can have a hit if its marketed.

saxy_jag, I'd love to take you up on your challenge but I would be labouring under the double handicap of
a) not being young & attractive like her
b)my singing voice sounds like a cat being strangled with piano wire.
One of my kids is a fan so I have heard lots of her music and I simply don't like it.

Reverand, I take your point about good not necessarily being equal to high sales. However, I guess 'good' will vary for each of us (Madonna, for instance, I could easily describe as over-rated, over-marketed, bland tripe). I happen to think she (Katy) is good (like I said, I've worked with some rubbish that calls itself professional - some of it quite well-known) and she has the sales that say a couple of million people think the same. I could understand this many people buying 'rubbish' if they were kids and easily influenced, but most adults only buy music if they like it.
