Traditionally, Kimono had no pockets. Women used their sleeves for holding small personal items and men suspended items from the sash that was wrapped around the kimono. To stop the cord from slipping, a small toggle was attached, and this is called a NETSUKE (pronunced "net-ski"). These were made out of wood or ivory and intricately and beautifully carved, and they are highly collectable and can have huge value.
