We want a key to the Lake House
10 Answers
My parents, who are semi-retired, recently purchased a neat vacation lake house with a boat. Although they frequently invite us to the house and entertain us, my husband and I would like our own key so we can come and go as we please. We would possibly like to entertain our friends there. My parents have rules, are neatniks and are uptight about their things. We have two small children and we have told them that we can't guarantee them that everything is going to be kept the way they want. How do I convince them to give us a key?

Why not get your own less neat vacation house (aka holiday home) and then you can entertain them for a change. what is a neat nik? is it the same as a beatnik but without the long hair and scruffy jeans?
Plus, and this is just be being a worrier, why take the sprogs to a lake? that's just askin for bother.

yep, i agree 100% with your parents and all these other coments you've received, you sound to me as though you have no respect for your parents or their beloved retreat !!! Buy your own, then you can have all the party's you want and all your friends can come along and trash all your things that you;ve worked hard for instead !!!!!
Why should you have a key? It's not your house and if your children can't be controlled, why should they be allowed to have the run of somebody else's house. Your parents have obviously worked hard to save and get this holiday home. They have a right to their privacy and to enjoy the way they want it kept.
Your parents generously invite you to go there regularly and entertain you. You are lucky to have this opportunity. I don't think you should risk offending them by asking for your own key. Just because you're members of the same family it doesn't mean that privacy boundaries shouldn't be respected.
