Internet at work....

Basically, I have very restricted access at work and can only access few websites here and there - this one included. Anyone know of any websites designed to help with this? Have tried WorkFriendly, but it only goes so far - eg. when I access the BBC football page, it gives me the headlines (all in Word format - that's fine), but when I click on the links to take me to the article, it doesn't do anything. Have also tried one other, then name of which escapes me right now, but..guess what....I'm restricted from going on that site in the first place!!

Any ideas greatly appreciated. Must say, after finding this website, mainly by accident, it is the site I spend much of my working day on!! No BBC, hotmail, youtube,any decent / interesting sites...shame on me!!

Have you tried remote access to your home pc ?
Apparently,if your home pc is on at home whilst you are at work you can access it remotely and surf thru its connection rather than the work's so no more access denied.
Havent proved this myself tho !

How much control do you have over the computer you use at work? Can you install stuff on it?

If so, you could either do as mattk suggests (this involves setting up a SSH tunnel...), maybe with something like VNC to make it easier. This means your home computer must always be on and must have a static IP or use some service like dyndns. This does reduce the security of your computer too really, but that should be fine.

Or, you could install Tor, which lets you browse totally anonymously. However, it is slow (because instead of going from your computer to youtube's computers for instance, it goes to Holland first then to France and then to youtube...), but it should be fine for browsing BBC headlines etc.

It's likely that you access the internet via a proxy which does all the surfing on your behalf and will only proxy http and ftp traffic.

In which case I'd be very surprised if you could remotely control your home PC unless you could set up some kind of HTTP tunneling but that's beyond me. Or perhaps there's some utility out there that will turn your home PCs desktop into a webpage.

If your works web filtering is anything like ours then Tor would be blocked.

Am going to sound like a boring f*rt here but they obviously block it for a reason.
I spend a large chunk of my time cleaning up computers where users have downloaded tonnes of junk without knowing it, often endangering their personal details and company data.
It has recently been decided that if anything illegal goes on using the internet, companies are vicareously responsible for providing unmetered or secured internet connectivity.
Regarding using remote access to your home, this would probably not work for two reasons.
1: You would need a static IP address and the ability to route internet traffic to a particular machine.
2: If they're blocking this site then they're more than likely blocking remote access traffic too.

It looks like that your boss etc has blocked you from sited like that all you have to do is either download firefox portable which your boss havent blocked thoose settings for that browser or you could try a proxy site like www.unfilterme.com or www.giantsurf.com if you need any more info comment me
