The pin to the bottom right as you plug it to the socket is the live pin, this has the fuse found in all household plugs. it is this pin which carries the current to whatever you have plugged into the socket, thus complwting the electrical circut, the bottom left pin is the neutral pin whuch gives the voltage a referance to the live pin, thus the current may change direcion as it does in british mains, the voltage variates from 350v almost to -350V giving 230V RMS or root mean square (the average voltage), the third pin at the top of the plug is the earth pin and should always be the last removed, hence it is longer than the other two, it is this pin that keeps you safe when unplugging, plugging in.
