Titanic/Olympic

I watched a programme on Sky3 last night about a conspiracy that the Titanic was secretly swopped for the Olympic and it was actually that ship that sank and not the Titanic. This was done for insurance purposes after the Olympic has collided with a Naval Battleship which severly damaged her(they said).
Anyone ever heard anything?

yes i heard that also but i think its a load of tosh. its not like pretending to the insurance company you had your laptop stolen.

I have heard that the Titanic never landed on the moon at all and it was all done in a film studio; I wonder if this is a related theory

Ha Ha, yes it was a something and nothing programme, but it sets ones mind to thinking "what if...."!

I suppose people will believe anything. When Clive Cussler wrote the novel, Raise The Titanic, there were actually people who wrote believing the ship had been recovered and brought to shore. I believe this is an excellent demonstration as to how the media can be and is used to shape public opinion. That in itself can be rather frightening: Remember, �if it�s in the News of the World, then it must be true.� Yes, and Dolly Parton sleeps on her stomach!

OK seven answers and all of you ridiculed what I asked!
If you cant think of anything intelligent to say, why answer at all?
No one can know for sure what happened in any historical situation, and yes dirty deeds and cover ups did and still do exist!
So, sorry if I asked what to me was a sensible question and I shant be bothering to post on here again, as you obviously dont want sensible discussions!

disbelief is a pretty fair response, mata hati. The theory sounds ridiculous to me and I said so (politely, though). I was taking you seriously - but I wasn't taking the programme seriously. And that's a serious response.

There was a fairly recent TV program that dispelled this 'swap' belief. The front of the bridge on one vessel, (I can't remember which), was curved, while the front of the other vessel's bridge was straight. In the programme, the bridge of the Titanic was found and examined by an ROV. The film showed how the bridge lying on the seabed conformed exactly to the construction plans for the Titanic, not the Olympic.

If you had seen the program you would understand what the full theory is, I'm not saying it is true but simply that it is nowhere near as stupid as it sounds.

heathfield - there was also evidence to the contry, parts of the submerged "Titanic" were not as per the original designs for the Titanic but were from the Olympic.

Mata: by no means was I trying to ridicule what you wrote. I saw the film as well. What I had intended to offer was that the public, often without concrete facts, can be led towards an incorrect conclusion. I do apologise. It certainly wasn�t my intent to have you feel ridiculed.

I apologise if I upset you, but you must realise some of these TV shows are downright dangerous. This one obviously got you thinking, however, the myth is never the truth, these cheap & unresearched TV shows try to convinve their audiences that the myths are the actual truth.
In effect they, attempt to disguise their hidden agendas which leave a lot to be desired.
Being a social History lecturer I have to warn my students to be wary of them.
