Can a "back up" be set automatically?

I've just bought an external hardrive after my last one died.
I have tranferred copies of my documents, musc, pictures etc to the drive manually. Is there any way this can be done in a less laborious way in future?

If you are using Windows XP it has a files and settings transfer wizard. click on Start / All programs / accessories / system tools. Simply follow the instructions .

Good Sync is a free program which takes care of this automatically for you

yes Windows XP includes a backup utility called NT Backup.
If you have XP Pro you can find it under the accessories - system tools menu. If you have XP Home then you need your installation disk and in the: VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP directory .
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the wizard that installs Backup.

Run the program and follow the wizard. You can then set a scheduled backup when needed.

I use Acronis - it's well worth the money and backs up everything (including your programs, settings, updates, emails etc) so if my XP was to crash I just reinstall the whole thing in about 20 minutes from the external hard drive.
