Bird Visitor

I have just seen a bird in my garden totally unkonwn to me and I am quite knowledgeable about birds. Larger than a blackbird with brown plummage longer than average legs with a rear white thin stripe It wagged its tail like a wagtail. Had longer than average legs and walked like a wader was foraging in the dead leaves and seemed to prefer walking to flying Anyone have any ideas searched through my books cann't find anything like it
