When you say secure sites do you mean sites that accept on-line orders, such as Amazon? What error messages are you receiving?

It's probably due to the security settings in your broswer. What version of Internet Explorer are you using?
Try using firefox instead.

I have this problem on my Winxp laptop, and find it either takes forever to make a secure payment (e.g. Paypal), or, more often, everything just hangs halfway through. I feel it's something to do with a missing javascript program, and the computer not recognising the incoming file extension. Anyone?
Are you using a firewall? Try opening port 443 to access secure web pages.

You could also try running this to re-register the dll:
start -> run -> regsvr32 softpub.dll

I'm on IE 5 and have been told to get IE 6 but cant get into any sites to download. Can get to search engines no probs but when they link me it just sits there. i can download it on another computer and save it to my pen drive but struggling where to find it

no squarebear, no firewall or anti virus at the moment cos i cant get to the sites to download it. also my on-line banking now states they do not support my web browser, thats why im trying to get 6 but cant even get into microsoft site. im using the pc at work.
Try this article Download IE6 in full.

You'll end up with a copy of the full installation program that you can copy onto your home PC.

I'd also recommend Firefox.
IE5!!! wow!

Get firefox from the site above. Better than IE6 or even 7 in every way. Should fix most if not all of your problems.

Once downloaded and installed firefox (you can download from another computer and transfer if easier), install AVG anti-virus and zonealarm firewall (both free online).

Well this problem can be sorted, given time.

But, what do you do on your computer? If you just use it for email, web browsing, word processing, spreadsheets, and things like that (essentially, anything except the latest games and any real pro issue), then consider installing Ubuntu over Windows.

It'll run faster than Windows and you'll likely have less problems.

From a non-technical point of view. I had a similar experience a few months ago, and I was getting really frustrated. Eventually diagnosed the cause to be the settings on my modem/router. Called the helpline and changed some settings, and now works fine.
