Amir Khan - Jury swayed by his celebrity status?

Have just heard the news and cannot believe that he was cleared of dangerous driving. I know he appears to be a nice young man, but I cant help thinking that if he was an unknown Joe Bloggs he would not have got away with it. What do you think?

It's certainly difficult to believe that you can simultaneously break 3 separate safety laws, injure someone as a result, and argue that your behaviour is anything other than dangerous.

Juries are a danger to society nowadays, easily overwhelmed by celebrity status.
A phone-in vote by the public, would offer a more accurate verdict.

I think that if he was indeed Joe Bloggs the same decision would have been reached, day and daily stories appear in the press about motorists causing death and injury on our roads and then walking away with a fine or suspended sentence! So no I don't think the jury was swayed by his celebrity status!!

Good point libertie, He was lucky that the pedestrian he hit was not killed. A thousand pound fine will be nothing to Amir Khan, The six month ban will inconvenience him a bit. Lets hope that the threat of a jail sentence had he been found guilty of dangerous driving will be a deterrent for him in future. I wonder how the pedestian feels about it. The press were not particularly interested in him were they ?

Sambro, let's wait and see if the injured pedestrian sells his story to the tabloids - then he'll earn much more than �1000. Could it be that the jury were more swayed by the fact that Khan is Asian or Muslim than a celeb?

Did you read what he said in court? He admitted to drinving carelessly not dangerously so that must have been in his favour.

Khan could afford a good QC, who tried to convince the jury that the pedestrian had deliberately thrown himself at the car, which probably made a big difference. Well I do hope that the pedestrian will be able to sell his story and that he gets adequate compensation from Khans insurers as well. You will never convince me that what Khan did was just careless. Its a joke! I am not having a go at Khan personally, I am annoyed at the so called justice system once again letting the victim down.

I have just seen an article in the Mirror about this case. It says that Khan is to face trial later this year for speeding at 145mph in the same car on the M60. Wonder what the jury will think now ?

Wonder how much ��� the victim got in his skyrocket to 'admit' he jumped in front of the car?
Would love to know a traffic cops opinion on this, wrong side of road, 47mph in a 30 zone, jumping lights and hitting pedestrian on a crossing. Goes beyond careless.
