depends what kind of shops you are wanting to look in. if you want the more expensive/designer style shops then definately head for Harvey Nichols and the victoria quarter located off Briggate - which is the main pedestrian shopping street.
There's a Vivienne westwood shop and All Saint's in there which are very good, also a really nice vintage shop which has some really beautiful earrings and brooches in.
At the top of Briggate on the Head Row there is a big two floor Primark.
Also near the train/bus stations there is the Corn Exchange which has a few designer/vintage shops and some more 'alternative' clothing shops. - there is some really good shops in there if you want 'kooky' cards or presents for people. - The big indoor market is near to here too but it's not very good in my opinion and parts of it just smell of all the fish and meat!
There's loads of good shops around leeds so i'm sure you'll find something!
As for somewhere to eat, there is a Nando's which is quite good which is situated up the road from Primark in a shopping centre type thing called 'The Light' - where there is quite a few other places to eat too. - around the outside of this there is a place called Felicini's which is really nice and do a deal where all pizza's are 5 but apart from that it's quite pricey.
Also there is a Tiger Tiger too, which is very good - especially if your really hungry! i find it to be quite cheap in there, and the food is delicious!
hope this is of some help!
