i have tried to get on bt broadband but had a LOT of problems which led to a lot of stress. Can anyone tell me how near you have to be to the exchange to be able to receive a continues broadband supply.

I think it's now around 6 miles.

Firstly you should have entered your phone number on the BT website, to see if broadband is available in your area.

BT should run line tests for about two weeks, before activating the broadband to your house.

If you have been able to get broadband then contact BT to see whether there is a problem at the exchange.

It used to be 4km, it is now 6km with BT.Bear in mind that the cables from the exchange to your house may not take a direct route and this figure refers to the cable distance.

Other issues may be the age and quality of the cabling. As has been suggested try your postcode or phone no. in the BT checker.
