Void Insurance?

Inspired by a recent question of Dangerous Driving. My father is going to be done for dangerous driving. He hit two cars, injured two people and wrecked a barrier. He is saying its not his fault and that someone cut him up. The thing is, he has a drink drive conviction on his licence from 4 years back but when he gave a copy of his licence to the company he was working for (hes an agency driver) he gave an old one which did not show his endoresment. He did say that he put on the sign up papers at the agency that he had the conviction but he also gave them a copy of the false licence as well. As of yet, no one knows this. Can the insurance company find this out by going to the dvla or by police reports sent to them. he is due to see the insurance company who have asked to see his licence. if they find out, what punishment would he expect. my dad is 55 and this is making him very ill

This is going to sound harsh, but here are the facts.
1. Your father says it's not his fault. I say it is. A driver should always be prepared for the unexpected.
2. He has obtained a pecuniary advantage by deception, namely he obtained his job by presenting a false licence. This is a criminal offence.
3. He needs to see a solicitor as a matter or urgency. My advice would be to come clean to all parties concerned about his deception.

Surely he was banned for the DD? Then the license he hasmust be from before he was convicted and ergo is probably invalid - not sure but that may also constitute driving with no license or similar

Sorry I havent checked in since I posted the question. Been busy with work.
I just need to clear some things up. First of all, the driving licence my Dad used when he went and got his work was his original licence he got when he passed his HGV tests a few years back. When he was banned, he could not find it to produce it to the courts. I know this is true cause I was there when he turned the house upside down looking for it. He had just moved house so it was packed up somewhere. When he found it, he stored it where he puts all his documents. Im not sure why he didnt chuck it, but hes saying he left it there for sentimental reasons. He was really down when he lost his licence. I remember when he lost it. He did have good reasons but knew he shouldnt have broke the law to stop a crime from happening. He pleaded guilty and got a 12 month ban. When he got his licence back, he put that licence in the documents box where he kept the other one (continued)

He lost his job last year and things looked desperate. He was going to miss all his bills, his mortgage and his car reypayments. Things looked really bad. He is on his own and looks after my 13 and 16 year old brothers. He had an office job back then, and his only experience was in work that was very difficult to come by. With Christmas knocking on the door, the bills needing paying and two lads in his care, he decided to go out and use his HGV licence. He signed up with one agency with the correct licence. (by the way, just to add, he took his document folder out with him that day). He then went to another agency. He filled the paperwork out and put in the relevant boxes that he had the conviction. He passed the driving licence to the consultant who copied it and gave it back, my dad then put it in his coat pocket and not the document folder. Nothing else was said. That afternoon, he was called with a couple days worth of work which he accpeted. When he arrived at the place he was given, the company asked for a copy of his licence for their records. As he was wearing the same jacket as before, he pulled the licence out and passed it over. When they gave the licence back, he noticed it was the blank sentimental one. He said he got nervous and didnt say anything. He was too embarrassed to say anything as there was about 10 drivers hanging around.

So he went out driving. He said at the time that driving was just to see him past christmas and then he'd find another office job. Christmas came and he was having no luck at all finding work. He applied for so many jobs. I remember helping him and it was getting him down. So he carried on driving. Then the accident happened. He wasnt drunk, he learnt his lesson and hasnt drank for 2 years. He was breath tested and passed. He says that he was driving along when a car that was over taking him cut him up when he veered in front of him. Because the other driver braked when he did this, my father had to break heavy but hit this car. Because of the impact, my fathers trucks offside veered slighty into the lane next to him. A car was overtaking at the time and he hit it.
The insurance company said they want his account of what happened, even though hes already filled a form in, and they need a copy of his licence as the company who he worked for havent got one on file. I know insurance companies always check licences after big accidents.
He knows hes done a silly thing and hes really upset over all of this. Like I said, its made him very ill. He rarely goes out and rarely smiles. Its horrible seeing him like this. I just dont know what to suggest. He wants to come clean cause he dont want all this to carry on but hes scared that he'll end up in massive trouble and have a huge bill to pay when he has no money at all to pay it with

I forgot to add in this that somewhere just after he signed up to drive, he became self employed. He was basically a driver for hire who got his work from an agency.
