I'm not overly sure of this, but it works when Epson and Canon printers have similar problems. If there is a nozzle/head clean option in the printer software, do this several times. As well as cleaning any possible blockages, it also makes sure the print head is full of ink (and should keep flowing :) ) With Epsons, when you put in a new cartrige, you may have to do this up to 10 times. If there's such an option, try it and see if it helps.
I hope you don't take offence at this, it's certainly not meant to cause it! Did you remove the little bit of plastic that covers the print head in transit? It's probably almost impossible to install the cartrige with it still in place, but worth a check. While it's out, give the electrical contacts on the back a bit of a polish and shake the cartrige to see if you can hear any liquid ink sounds, perhaps it's dried out.
if it is new, don't play about just take it back under guarantee and get a replacement
