I stumbled across your question when I was googling to find the same thing .
Four years ago I made a 37mm thick top for my desk with rounded internal and external corners thinking it would be easy to find chrome or aluminium trim to finish it off and give it an "American Diner" look. Wrong!!! As you've dicovered.
HOWEVER today, on one of my periodic attempts to solve the problem, I did come across a website for a worktop company who refer to flexible plastic edging which comes in quite a few colours which fits around even tight corners as well as laminate which would presumably be OK for your gentle oval (and they even have a picture of the American Diner aluminium). They don't sell the trim but I've emailed them to ask for details of manufacturers/suppliers. I'll post again if/when I hear from them.
Hang on in there - we might both be lucky
