When I looked into the fridge I today I noticed that my husband had put out of date pate on his sandwich that he made for work. The use buy date for the meat pate was the 22nd October I bought this pate on the 26th October from a well known supermarket. I didn't think to check the dates. I was wondering if this will make my husband ill and what should I do about it.

If you've still got the till reciept and the pate container with the date on it, i'd take it back to the store and demand a refund.

As for your hubby, I'm sure he'll be ok, can't imagine any adverse effects.
Has your husband come back home by now?
If not , you definitely have a case !

Seriously, most "use by" or "best before" dates are very conservative and err on the side of ultra caution --to save the makers/sellers from legal cases. Pate however is a notorious carrier of food poison and needs to be treated with caution. The supermarket is seriously out of order and I would definitely be on to them.
...you should get a full refund plus some vouchers, supermarkets don't like it when this happens, if Enviromental Health pay them a visit they are liable to a 1,000 fine PER ITEM they find out of date.... I would go for a refund , then phone EH , who will pay them a spot check visit.......
